If you really love your cars, you need a secure and dry place to store them. With that goal in mind, an antique car owner in Short Pump, Virginia approached Vivian and Bart Burgwyn of Case Chester and asked them to build a stand-alone two-car garage for his prized vehicles. He wanted the structure to include space for a future home office and an adjacent shed for garden tool storage. The completed project met all three goals.
The First Steps Before Building
Because Bart is an experienced garage remodeling contractor, he designed the garage and shed based on a photo the client provided. The plans specced out a two car stand-alone garage measuring 26 feet wide by 32 feet deep with second story unfinished office space. The adjacent matching shed to the rear of the garage measured 6 feet wide and 18 feet deep.
Before breaking ground, Bart met with his client’s Homeowner’s Association (HOA) architectural committee to ensure the garage and shed met with the association’s guidelines. The plans and materials required HOA approval. Bart shepherded the project through the process to ensure it adhered to all required building codes, much to the relief of the client.
As the contractor on this project, Case Chester subbed out some of the tasks including tree removal, digging footers, block work, and concrete pouring to dependable local businesses. Bart and his team handled all the rest.
Meeting HOA requirements mandated the garage and shed match the client’s home exactly, both in color and style. The insulated garage doors were fitted with remote control openers. Cedar shake shingles were applied to the roof. Case recommended maintenance-free materials such as PVC for the exterior trim, which is a non-rotting product.
The build time for this garage / office / shed combination took two months and was completed four months from the time the client first proposed the project to Case Chester. There were no major issues during construction. In fact, despite an outdoor temperature of 100+ degrees fahrenheit, the Case team completed the project ahead of schedule.
This garage is the latest of many projects Case Chester successfully constructed for this client. It met with his goals, as budgeted, in less time than estimated.
